Founded in 1979, Wuhan Planning and Research Institute is a "Class II public institution" under the Wuhan Natural Resources and Planning Bureau. Before the national land spatial planning reform, it is one of the few institutions in the country with both urban and rural planning and land planning "double Class A" qualifications, and it is also the first batch of first-class planning institutions announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources after the land spatial planning reform. In 2022, it merged with Wuhan Transportation Development Strategy Research Institute to form Wuhan Planning Research Institute (Wuhan Transportation Development Strategy Research Institute). Through the combination of strong and powerful, it has formed a comprehensive planning research institution with prominent professional characteristics, strong core competitiveness and integrated business development, and polished the brand of Wuhan Planning.

For a long time, Wuhan Planning and Research Institute (Wuhan Institute of Transportation Development Strategy) has been responsible for Wuhan's development strategic planning, regional planning, legal planning at all levels, special planning for ecological protection and restoration, comprehensive land improvement, historical and cultural protection, public service, comprehensive transportation, municipal infrastructure, urban design and urban renewal of key functional areas, and other major project planning. And provide planning technical services to the provincial government, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Housing.

Renewal decade

Through three representative projects of the institute, the achievements of Wuhan's urban renewal in the past 10 years are demonstrated: As the first demonstration project of Wuhan's post-epidemic revitalization, the Implementation Plan of Hankou Historical Landscape Area revitalizes the development momentum of historical landscape area and promotes the sustainable, healthy, diversified and harmonious development of the city through planning strategies such as cultural renewal, functional resetting, life reconstruction and image reconstruction; "Sanyang Design City Area Urban Renewal" is the starting piece of the urban renewal project of Hankou historical landscape area, and as a typical project, was selected as the 2022 urban renewal demonstration case of the Ministry of Natural Resources; The Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of Protection and Micro-renewal of Lihuangpi Road in Hankou Former Concession Area has implemented the planning concept of "strong protection", "re-guidance" and "micro-renewal", so that its historical and cultural value has won the attention of the world, and the cultural brand of Lihuangpi Road has developed rapidly, and was selected into the second batch of national tourism and leisure blocks list of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in March this year.

Decade of transportation

In the past 10 years, Wuhan's transportation development has undergone great changes. In order to build a demonstration city of a powerful transportation country, Wuhan has formulated four rounds of comprehensive transportation system planning, special plans for rail transit, backbone road networks, river crossings, and implementation plans for the "13th Five-Year Plan" urban construction span project, parking lot, etc. Wuhan has achieved leap-forward development in the construction of transportation and municipal facilities, and a modern comprehensive transportation system has basically taken shape. At the same time, the institute has built a domestic municipal think-tank platform system for policy decision-making and planning management from many aspects such as data information collection, traffic simulation, and planning decision deduction, and based on this, the "Wuhan Intelligent Transportation Brain" is built.

Decade of protection

Over the past 10 years, Wuhan has given priority to ecological and green development, paid attention to ecological protection and restoration, anchoring the ecological framework of "two axes, two rings, six wedges and multiple corridors, and the north peak and the South plateau", promulgated the country's first local regulations on ecological space control, and maintained the spatial structure and development order of urban construction, greatly improving the urban ecological environment and residents' quality of life. The "two rivers and four banks" in Wuhan has the most magnificent landscape pattern, which is the key space for the implementation of the "Great Protection of the Yangtze River" strategy. The plan has made contributions to the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt through the overall coordination of ecological protection, economic development, flood prevention, life and leisure functions. The Wuhan Hundred-mile Yangtze River Ecological Corridor Plan focuses on the five dimensions of "safety, ecology, culture, transportation, and vitality" and implements the "Yangtze River Protection Law of the People's Republic of China". After the transformation, it has become a new punching place popular with citizens, and has been inspected by national and local leaders and widely reported by relevant media for many times.
